Ben Affleck Calls Jennifer Garner and Kerry Washington "Twin Spirits" Thanks to Their Secret On-Set Talent

Ben Affleck just gave his ex-wife Jennifer Garner a compliment that no one saw coming. During an appearance on Kerry Washington’s“Street You Grew Up On”podcast, Affleck called Garner and Washington“twin spirits,”explaining that they are the only two people he knows who bake for their film crews on a regular basis. He even joked that their generosity makes him feel bad for never matching their effort.

The backstory makes the compliment even more interesting. Washington’s role in Animals was originally written for Garner, with Matt Damon set to play opposite her. When Damon dropped out because of The Odyssey, Affleck stepped into the lead himself. He and Garner then agreed that playing spouses on screen would carry too much baggage for audiences, so Washington ended up with the part. Affleck has said he’d love to work with Garner again and that they remain really good friends.

Animals premieres on Netflix on October 9, and now we’ll be watching every scene wondering who baked the cookies. Would you ever work on a project with your ex, or is that a line you never cross?
