Beach Boys Cancel EPCOT Shows as Mike Love Faces Serious Health Challenges

The Beach Boys have canceled their Nov. 11 and 12 performances at EPCOT’s Eat to the Beat series, and John Stamos and the California Sound will take their place. The switch follows an October statement from Stamos confirming that Mike Love, 85, is dealing with serious health challenges. Stamos, a longtime friend and frequent collaborator with the band, said the hope is that Love keeps doing what he loves for years to come, though the future remains uncertain.

The cancellations didn’t come out of nowhere. The band scrapped several Endless Summer Gold Tour dates in September, and in July Love postponed nearly 30 summer shows, citing grief over the death of his sister Maureen along with recovery from bronchitis and COVID-19. In his own words, Love said he feels stronger physically every day but is heartbroken emotionally.

Love is the only original Beach Boys member still touring, which makes this moment feel bigger than a couple of schedule changes. Fans who grew up with the music are now watching an 85-year-old legend navigate the limits of a six-decade career onstage. The music isn’t going anywhere, but the future of the touring band is genuinely up in the air. What’s your favorite Beach Boys memory? Drop it in the comments.
