Baz Luhrmann’s“William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet”is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the biggest way possible: a worldwide tour that pairs the film with a live orchestra performing its iconic soundtrack in sync. The 1996 movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, will screen with all its original dialogue and action intact while a hybrid ensemble plays the score live. Presented by GEA Live with Disney Concerts and Luhrmann, the production premieres at the Sydney Opera House on Sept. 29.
From there, the tour heads to the U.S., where it plays more than 40 theaters starting Jan. 9 in Williamsport, PA. Australia gets another round in May, and a 12-country European run follows in the fall of 2026, hitting the U.K., France, Germany, the Netherlands, and more. The live setlist pulls straight from the soundtrack that defined the’90s, including tracks by Des’ree, The Cardigans, Radiohead, and Garbage. In other words,“Kissing You”and“Lovefool”performed live while the movie plays.
