Bari Weiss has now spent a full year leading CBS News, and the picture coming out of the building isn’t pretty. Staffers tell Page Six they feel shut out of decisions, with one insider saying that if you don’t agree with her, it simply doesn’t matter. Another described a workplace where nobody can say“that’s a bad idea”without getting a look.
The ratings tell part of the story too. Moving Tony Dokoupil from“CBS Mornings”to“Evening News”was meant to shake things up, but viewership fell instead. The overhaul of“60 Minutes”brought embarrassing headlines and lost viewers, even as the show recently scored a ratings spike.
There are bright spots. CBS scored strong bookings with Sylvester Stallone and Patrick Clancy, and defenders say the strategy is still finding its footing. CBS declined to comment on the internal tensions. So we want to know: what would you do if you were running CBS News right now? Sound off in the comments.
