A high-profile actor known for his role in HBO’s acclaimed Band of Brothers has been found guilty of serious sexual and domestic offenses that span nearly two decades. Iain Robertson, 45, was convicted Tuesday, June 23, at the High Court in Glasgow on five counts, including rape and domestic abuse involving three women between 2004 and 2019.

The Scottish actor, best known for playing Stevie O’Hara in the BBC soap opera River City, faced detailed testimony from his accusers. One woman described meeting Robertson on the set of River City sometime between 2018 and 2019. She told the court that while they did become intimate at one point, she’d made clear she wanted a platonic relationship. Instead, she alleged Robertson dismissed her boundaries, convinced she was in denial about her own feelings. The situation escalated when she stayed at his Glasgow home, planning to sleep on the sofa. Robertson reportedly told her she could join him in bed and that nothing would happen. She described what followed as nonconsensual: I was lying down, I was very limp and he went on top of me.

A second accuser, also an actor, testified that Robertson lunged at her during an argument in 2014. She thought he was going to hit me. Beyond that violent moment, she detailed what she characterized as obsessive behavior—repeated voicemails and snack boxes sent to theaters where she performed. Robertson was convicted of assault in this case but cleared on a second charge related to the same incident.

During his testimony, Robertson acknowledged he was no angel but denied all charges. On the question of consent, he claimed sensitivity to nonverbal cues and said participation in nonconsensual acts was something I would not participate in at all. The jury, however, found his defense unconvincing.

The convictions carry serious weight, not only for Robertson’s career but as a stark reminder of how power dynamics in entertainment can enable harm. Robertson faces sentencing on July 23.
