Backline, the nonprofit providing free mental health resources across every level of the music industry, celebrates its seventh anniversary today, and it lands on a golden birthday: seven years on the seventh. To mark the moment, the organization launched a $77,777 fundraising goal for October.
The impact numbers tell the story. Over seven years, Backline has delivered free one-on-one support to 4,151 people and matched 3,331 of them with personalized Care Plans. Its 24/7 B-LINE, which launched in January, has already served 757 people by call or text. Through the Music’s Mental Health Fund with Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Backline has covered more than $700,000 in mental health care costs. And its Harmony in Practice program has trained 1,810 clinicians on the specific pressures of music industry life.
Artists have stepped up too. Chappell Roan donated $25,000 to the We Got You! fund, Charli xcx matched it, Noah Kahan’s Busyhead Project partners with Backline, and Wynonna Judd has performed at benefit shows. With World Mental Health Day on October 10, the timing is a reminder that free support exists for everyone from headliners to touring crew.
If you or someone you know works in music, the B-LINE is available around the clock at no cost. What’s one thing you wish more people understood about mental health in the music industry?
