Ariana Biermann has a new trophy and a heavy week behind her. The 24-year-old Next Gen NYC star was named Breakout Star at the second annual Virtual Reali-Tea Awards in New York City on Tuesday night, where she told the audience that reality TV comes with“amazing things and some not-so-great things,”adding that Bravo“took a chance on me and I feel so honored.”

That acceptance speech came less than a day after a much different scene in a Georgia courtroom. Ariana’s 15-year-old brother KJ Biermann pleaded not guilty Monday to seven felony charges, including aggravated child molestation and false imprisonment, stemming from an alleged April 23 incident at a Life Time Fitness center. He was arrested on Aug. 17 and later granted a $200,000 bond with conditions that include electronic monitoring, a cell phone ban, and no contact with anyone under 16.

Kim Zolciak has defended her son, calling the allegations“reckless and deeply troubling,”while KJ’s attorney Jason Sheffield says the teenager“categorically denies ever being involved with this woman.”With Kim and Kroy Biermann’s own split still winding through the courts, the family is balancing a career celebration and a serious legal fight at the same time. Fans can watch Ariana’s award moment when the VRT Awards stream free on Philo starting Oct. 9.

Do you think reality TV families should address legal drama publicly, or keep it private? Sound off.
