Angelina Jolie was photographed beaming and waving to paparazzi Monday night at a Los Angeles screening of“Wild Horse Nine,”and the timing has everyone talking. Hours earlier, news broke that her 18-year-old daughter Vivienne had legally dropped“Pitt”from her surname, becoming Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
The paperwork moved fast. Vivienne filed the petition on July 20, just eight days after her 18th birthday, with her attorney appearing remotely and Judge Virginia Keeny reading the new name aloud in court. She’s now the fourth of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to remove Pitt from their name, joining Zahara, Maddox and Shiloh. Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce in December 2024 after an eight-year battle, and Brad has yet to publicly comment on the name change.
Jolie once said that as a parent you try not to get in the way of this human being who has a life separate from yours. This week made that philosophy very visible. So what do you think: is dropping a parent’s last name a statement, or just a kid claiming her own identity? Sound off in the comments.
