Alice Cooper is opening up about the darkest chapter of his life. In his new memoir, Devil on My Shoulder, out October 6th, the rock legend says crack cocaine“almost killed”him in the late’70s and early’80s. In a new interview with The Telegraph, he also revealed that his use of the drug nearly ended his marriage to his wife, Sheryl.
The timeline is what makes the story so striking: Cooper was introduced to crack shortly after completing rehab for alcohol abuse. He says he and Sheryl were close to divorce court when he told her,“This is wrong,”and she replied,“Yeah, I know.”That moment marked a turning point. Cooper has now been sober for more than 40 years.
At 78, he’s still very much in motion. A fall North American tour is on the books, along with Las Vegas shows alongside magician Criss Angel. Devil on My Shoulder arrives October 6th and covers the full story in his own words.
