The cast of 24 Hour Party People got back together in Manchester on Tuesday, October 6 for a special anniversary screening that opened the Beyond The City music and media conference. Steve Coogan, director Michael Winterbottom and producer Andrew Eaton took part in a post-film Q&A, while Christopher Eccleston, Paul Popplewell, Kieran O’Brien, John Thomson and Happy Mondays’Rowetta joined on the red carpet. The event was organised by Oli Wilson, son of the late Tony Wilson, the Factory Records boss Coogan portrayed in the film.

The night carried extra weight because of that family connection. Coogan described Oli as one of the authentic voices of Manchester, saying he inherited his father’s instinct for being genuinely disruptive and challenging in the best possible way. The film itself has become a touchstone for anyone curious about the Madchester era, Factory Records and the wild energy that put Manchester music on the global map.

Now the film is getting a second life. A fully remastered 4K version arrives in UK and Ireland cinemas on Friday, October 9, following 100 free screenings at independent cinemas. It lands digitally and on 4K UHD disc on October 26. Whether you’re a longtime fan or have never seen it, this is the moment to experience the chaos on the big screen.

Have you ever seen 24 Hour Party People? What’s your favourite film about a music scene?
