Trash Talk: JPMorgan Chase Executive Loses Job, But NYPD Won't Charge Her

Getting fired for stealing a trash can probably wasn’t on Angie Báez’s bingo card, but here we are. The 40-year-old JPMorgan Chase senior director learned the hard way that viral fame comes with consequences—just not the legal kind, apparently.

The incident happened during the New York Knicks parade celebrations in June. Videos circulating online showed Báez emptying an orange and blue trash bin onto the street to claim the Knicks-themed container for herself. She then walked away with it, later spotted smiling widely with her prize on the subway. The whole thing screamed trophy moment to her—probably less so to the city of New York, who owns those bins. But here’s where it gets interesting: when TMZ reached out to the NYPD to ask if they planned to charge or cite her, the response was basically a shrug. There’s no complaint report on file, they said. The police aren’t pursuing the case.

That doesn’t mean Báez got off consequence-free, though. JPMorgan Chase had other ideas. By Tuesday, she was out. A senior director position at one of the world’s largest financial institutions—gone. The company decided that their trash bandit needed to find a new career trajectory. No word yet from Báez herself on the firing or whether she’s still enjoying her stolen bin at home.

There’s something almost poetic about how this played out. The NYPD isn’t interested in prosecuting someone for snatching public property during a sports parade celebration, but a major corporation absolutely was interested in making an example of one of their executives. It raises a question about what really matters in 2026: a missing trash can, or your professional reputation. One guess which one actually cost her something.
