Three Women Charged After Nightclub Assault Shouted Free Karmelo

When a movement meant to advocate for a convicted killer turns into a violent nightclub assault, you’ve got a story that cuts straight to the heart of how social causes can spiral into something unrecognizable—and ugly.

Three women—Ciarrianne Fuller, Dejae Brown, and Alana Mumphrey, all 21 years old—are now facing assault charges after a June 21 incident outside a Texas nightclub that witnesses say erupted with chants of“Free Karmelo.”According to arrest affidavits, a security guard heard someone announce they’d attack the next white woman who walked out, and minutes later, a victim was jumped by a group. She suffered injuries to the back of her head and her right eye before the guard broke up the fight.

The connection to Karmelo Anthony isn’t accidental. Anthony, recently sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2025 stabbing death of Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet, has become the unlikely focus of a“Free Karmelo”movement. In the days before the assault, one of the accused allegedly posted on social media:“takin’fades for Karmelo all day today”—a reference investigators interpreted as deliberately seeking out fights on his behalf.

The victim later identified the three suspects through social media. Police also recovered a text thread containing video of the assault, in which one alleged participant wrote,“we shouldn’t have done that (expletive) bro.”That moment of apparent remorse stands in sharp contrast to the alleged premeditation and racial targeting that led authorities to file charges.

What makes this case particularly striking isn’t just the violence itself—it’s how ideology, social media, and mob dynamics collided in real time. Authorities are now monitoring chatter about possible retaliation and coordinating with the FBI, though they say there’s no indication of a broader public safety threat. Still, the question lingers: when does advocacy for someone become a license for violence against strangers?
