When actor Steve Guttenberg filed for divorce in April 2025 after six years of marriage, he apparently wanted to move fast — and the settlement that just became public shows he was willing to pay for the speed.

Court documents obtained by Us Weekly on Friday, May 29, reveal that the Three Men and a Baby star and his ex-wife Emily Guttenberg finalized their split with a settlement agreement signed on March 17. The headline number: $700,000 in spousal support paid as a lump-sum buyout to Emily, a news anchor whom Steve met on a blind date in 2014. But the real story isn’t just the seven figures — it’s what else Steve agreed to foot the bill for while Emily transitions out of their shared life.

The 67-year-old actor is keeping the couple’s Pacific Palisades home, which survived the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires thanks to firefighters. He’s also holding onto all his pre-marriage and post-separation earnings, the art and collectibles, 16 investment accounts, and every residual and royalty check from his film work. Emily, who signed a prenup in June 2018 before their January 2019 wedding, keeps her own earnings and a few bank accounts — but Steve’s support doesn’t stop at the $700K. He’s covering the monthly lease payments and insurance on her 2024 BMW x3, picking up the tab to move and store her personal property, and fronting the cost of a month-long stay at the Ritz Carlton while she apartment hunts. Oh, and he’s letting her charge up to $5,000 a month on his credit card until she finds a place by July 1. That’s the kind of exit strategy that screams“I don’t want this to drag on.”

What makes this settlement noteworthy isn’t just the generosity — it’s the clarity it provides about what happens when a prenup actually holds up. Emily walked away with considerably less than she might have without one, which underscores why celebrities and high-net-worth individuals swear by them. Steve keeps his kingdom intact; Emily gets a cushioned landing pad. During a 2017 interview with the Daily Beast, Steve had gushed about Emily, saying,“She makes me a better person, which I really like”and praising her as“a very classy lady”with“terrific”values and“sense of humor.”Six years later, the affection seems to have given way to pragmatism — but at least it’s an expensive pragmatism.

This is Steve’s second marriage ending in divorce. He was previously married to model and actress Denise Bixler from 1988 to 1992, so he’s learned the hard way that Hollywood relationships don’t always have happy endings. But this time around, he’s made sure the exit is as smooth — and as financially managed — as possible.
