Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wanted an 8-foot privacy fence around their new lakeside mansion in Bratenahl, Ohio. The village had other ideas. The Bratenahl Architectural Review Board scrapped or ignored the request twice, in August and September, because local code caps lakefront fences at 2.5 feet unless they’re at least 75 percent see-through. The rule exists to protect what everyone moved there for: the lake view.
The couple landed on a compromise, a lower fence that doesn’t enclose the entire property. Kelce was reportedly gracious with officials through the whole process, which is a solid way to start things off with the neighbors. The home itself is a 21,000-square-foot estate Kelce bought in March for $5.35 million, before the couple married in July.
Privacy is still the priority, though. The couple installed a voice-warning alarm system around the property. One neighbor who got too close to the house was greeted by a recorded voice telling them not to pass onto the estate. So the message is clear: enjoy the lake, just don’t wander up the lawn.
