Spencer Pratt is finally addressing the Hotel Bel-Air receipts. During his run for Los Angeles mayor, people noticed he was staying at a hotel where rooms run $900 to $1,200 a night, and the internet had thoughts. According to Pratt, his campaign team kept the real story under wraps at the time: he was receiving death threats and needed full-time security. The Bel-Air’s gated, fortress-like grounds meant his security detail could leave him alone and still know he was safe.
His defense leans on math. Pratt says booking three separate rooms to house a security team elsewhere would have cost more than one secure suite at the Bel-Air, and he’s sticking with the claim that even a budget motel would’ve run him higher once security was factored in. It’s a very L.A. kind of logic, and your mileage may vary on whether it holds up.
The backstory adds some weight. Pratt and Heidi Montag lost their home in the January 2025 Palisades fire, and he was left off the ballot after the June primary, which Karen Bass and Nithya Raman advanced from. Now he’s promoting a private security app called Patrol, saying he’s done leaving his family’s lives in the hands of government. Does the Bel-Air math make sense to you, or is it the most L.A. excuse ever? Tell us in the comments.
