In a remarkable act of kindness, a group of snowmobilers in New Hampshire can now add“moose rescuers”to their resumes. While returning home from a day of winter fun, Mike Dion and his friends stumbled upon a young moose doe, trapped in snow that reached up to her neck. With her only visible features being a whimpering snout and tuft of mane, the situation looked grim.
With no cell service to call for help, they decided to take matters into their own hands. They began to dig the exhausted moose out, spending about 20 minutes on their knees in the crisp New England snow, working tirelessly to free her from her snowy prison. Finally, after what felt like an eternity to the brave snowmobilers, the moose was able to stand on her own and seemed surprisingly calm, much to their relief.
Once freed, the young moose appeared healthy, and the group stayed nearby for a few minutes to ensure she regained her composure before heading back home. It’s heartwarming moments like these that highlight not only the kindness of humans but also the unexpected connections we can make with wildlife. So what if she didn’t say‘thank you’? We all know her grateful eyes said enough!
