Nia Long officially has her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the ceremony came with a moment nobody expected to be this good. Snoop Dogg, her friend of more than 25 years, gave the speech on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and he showed up wearing a custom jacket covered in photos from Long’s career. In his speech, Snoop said she“wasn’t just in the culture”but that she is the culture, and he noted that every Black man in America thought he had a chance with her at some point.

Long’s reaction was just as memorable. She thanked Snoop, called him“my brother for life,”and joked that she might need to borrow that jacket. The whole thing felt less like a formal ceremony and more like two old friends celebrating three decades of work in public.

That work deserves the recognition. Her roles span from Boyz N the Hood to Friday to Love Jones to Michael, and she appeared in Snoop’s 2015“California Roll”video alongside Stevie Wonder. J. Cole, Lil Wayne and Ye have all name-dropped her in lyrics. Few performers bridge film and hip-hop the way she has. Which Nia Long performance is your favorite? Let us know.
