But Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter has a clear message for anyone demanding fast results: patience is non-negotiable.

In a Monday statement to ABC News, Sheriff Ledbetter made it plain that his investigators won’t be working against the clock, no matter how much public speculation swirls around the case. The stakes feel impossibly high. Nolan set out with friends for what should’ve been a routine day on the water. A Facebook photo captured the group on the boat, but when they returned to the mainland, Nolan was gone. Two days later, his body turned up near the shoreline of Horn Island during a police search — and since then, the theories have multiplied faster than the facts.

Speculation has zeroed in on the racial angle. Nolan was Black, Mississippi’s history with racism casts a long shadow, and the lack of clear answers has fueled darker theories about what might’ve happened. It’s the kind of void that breeds conspiracy.
