Porsha Williams is opening up about a health scare that changed her life this year. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed she underwent an emergency partial hysterectomy after doctors found 21 uterine fibroids, including one the size of a cantaloupe. She went in for a fertility checkup, got the diagnosis, and was in surgery roughly two weeks later. During the procedure, doctors also discovered endometriosis and another condition involving her uterine lining.

The 45-year-old says she’d been dealing with prolonged bleeding, migraines, severe fatigue, and mood swings, but assumed it was perimenopause. She’s been managing fibroids since her late 20s, and a fibroid contributed to a miscarriage at four months during an earlier pregnancy. She kept her ovaries but lost her uterus, and described the mix of physical relief and emotional pain over not being able to carry another child.

Porsha shared her story on CBS Mornings with Gayle King and in a personal essay for Glamour. Her goal is simple: get women to advocate for their own health. Fibroids disproportionately affect Black women, who are also more likely to undergo hysterectomies, making her transparency a major moment for awareness.
