The 45-year-old reality star and author revealed she underwent an emergency hysterectomy after doctors discovered fibroids in her uterus. During the surgery, they removed 21 fibroids, with the largest measuring the size of a cantaloupe.
Williams shared the news through an Instagram statement and a deeply personal essay for Glamour, where she explained that while she didn’t choose the surgery, it ended up saving her life. She also said her quality of life has improved 100 percent since the procedure. In her essay, she addressed the stigma that surrounds hysterectomies, noting that some people act as though a woman is“less of a woman without your uterus.”
