NJ TikToker Called 'Tone Deaf' After Complaining About Bridge Walk on Night of Fatal Shooting

A viral TikTok from a New Jersey commuter has sparked a massive debate about empathy and inconvenience. The user, known as Mumizuumi, posted a video complaining that NJ Transit made riders wait in traffic for three hours before telling them to walk across the George Washington Bridge from New York City to New Jersey on October 20th. Her video spread quickly, but so did the context nobody in it mentioned.

That same night, a 46-year-old Con Edison employee named Korvan Irvine was shot and killed in his vehicle on the bridge around 7 p.m. Once commenters connected the timeline, the backlash was swift, with many calling her reaction tone deaf and pointing out she went home safe while a man lost his life. One commenter wrote,“Sometimes we have it so good that we don’t realize an inconvenience for us costs someone else their life.”Others defended NJ Transit, noting the agency had little control over a police investigation and that delay alerts appeared in its app. The Port Authority shut the bridge lanes for roughly five hours before reopening after midnight.

The whole situation raises a bigger question: when is it okay to voice frustration, and when should we pause and think about what’s actually happening around us? We want to hear both sides.
