Netflix’s“Monster”anthology has officially moved on from the Menendez brothers and Ed Gein. Season 4, titled“Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,”is streaming now with all eight episodes, and it marks a major first for the franchise: a female lead subject. Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie Borden, the woman accused of killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892. She was acquitted, no one else was ever convicted, and the case remains one of America’s most debated unsolved murders.
The cast is stacked. Charlie Hunnam returns to the anthology as Andrew Borden after playing Ed Gein in Season 3, Rebecca Hall plays Abby Borden, and Sarah Paulson appears as Aileen Wuornos. Ryan Murphy’s season frames the story around female rage and repression, which gives the historical case a very modern resonance. If you’re already subscribed to Netflix, all eight episodes are available to binge right now. If you’re not, DIRECTV is offering a year of free Netflix with select Genre Packs and a Gemini Device, which makes this a pretty solid time to jump in.
So the real question: after watching, do you think Lizzie did it? Sound off in the comments and let us know your verdict.
