Mother Nature Crashes MGK's Michigan Show After Just Four Songs

When Machine Gun Kelly took the stage at Pine Knob Music Theatre near Detroit on Tuesday night, he probably wasn’t expecting Mother Nature to be his opening act. But after roughly four songs, the rain and thunder rolled in hard enough that security had no choice but to escort him offstage for his own safety.

It wasn’t a quick weather pause either. MGK did return a few minutes later once the storm seemed to subside, ready to pick things back up. That’s the kind of grit fans love to see—the guy willing to try again. But the weather had other plans. When the rain and thunder returned just as quickly, the venue made the call to shut the whole thing down.

The video tells the story: MGK sitting at the edge of the stage with his acoustic guitar when security walks up and ushers him away. The crowd’s disappointment was palpable, and honestly, it’s hard to blame them. You show up for a full set and leave with four songs and a story.

MGK wasn’t thrilled about it either. He posted to Instagram Stories afterward, saying he was shocked that a storm had actually stopped one of his shows—apparently a first for him in his career. He also made it clear he fought with the venue to keep playing, but ultimately didn’t have the power to override their safety decision. Fair enough: lightning and live music don’t mix, no matter how much either the artist or the crowd wants them to.

As for a reschedule, there’s nothing official yet. But given how much both MGK and his fans clearly wanted this show to happen, chances are Pine Knob Music Theatre will work something out. Sometimes the best concerts are the ones that almost didn’t happen—here’s hoping the rescheduled version lives up to the hype.
