Michael Douglas Gives Rare Jack Nicholson Update: He's 'Well' and Loving Slipper Life in Retirement

Jack Nicholson fans finally got the update they’ve been waiting for, courtesy of Michael Douglas. While promoting his memoir One Helluva Ride at an event in Wales, Douglas was asked about his longtime friend and told the crowd Nicholson is“well,”has stepped away from acting, and still gets regular visits from him. Then came the detail everyone’s talking about: Jack spends his days walking around his house in slippers.

It’s been 16 years since Nicholson’s last film role, 2010’s How Do You Know?, and he’s kept an extremely low profile since, making a rare public appearance at SNL’s 50th anniversary special in February 2025. Douglas and Nicholson’s friendship stretches back to 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which Douglas produced and Nicholson starred in. That history makes Douglas one of the few people who can speak to what Jack’s life actually looks like now.

So the takeaway is simple: one of the greatest actors of all time is healthy, happy, and fully retired. No comeback tour, no farewell project, just slippers and peace. What’s your all-time favorite Jack Nicholson role? Tell us in the comments.
