Meghan Markle's Phone Number Leaked From a School Parents' Group Chat, Because of Course It Was

Meghan Markle did the most relatable thing a mom can do: she joined her kids’school parents’WhatsApp group and said hello. According to The Sun, that was enough for her phone number to end up leaked and reportedly shared around multiple times, along with the friendly“Hi moms! Thanks for the warm welcome”message she sent to the Year 3 group.

The timing makes it sting worse. Harry and Meghan moved back to the U.K. in August after six years in California, Archie and Lilibet switched schools just two days into the year over security concerns, and the couple’s publicly funded security access is currently under review. Against that backdrop, a leaked number isn’t just embarrassing. It’s a genuine safety issue, and a reminder that privacy is still a battle for this family.

But the story hits for a second reason too, and that one is about all of us. Group chats are only as private as the least private person in them. The minute someone screenshots, your birthday plans, your group photos, or your phone number can go anywhere. So before you send that message, ask yourself: what’s the worst thing that would happen if the whole chat leaked?

Have you ever had something slip out of your group chat? Tell us in the comments.
