Mary Cosby is heading into the RHOSLC season 7 premiere with a heavy heart and a surprising amount of peace. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star spoke to Vulture about losing her son Robert Cosby Jr., who died in February at 23 after a battle with addiction. Mary said she went into shock, but still feels her son’s spirit and believes he is safe. She described a peace in her home that wasn’t there before, saying,“I think that it was for the good.”

Mary also explained why she chose to return to filming rather than step away. Production paused after the tragedy, but she said staying home would have pulled her somewhere darker. Her costars showed up for her in real ways: Bronwyn Newport visited with her mom, Lisa Barlow sent food and gifts, and Mary said that support gave her strength.

Season 7 of RHOSLC premieres Wednesday, September 16 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo, streaming the next day on Peacock. What do you think about how Mary is talking about her grief? Let us know in the comments.
