Man Says He Was Fired 2.5 Hours Into His First Day Over Alleged Hygiene Issues

A Reddit user named Havocko says his first day at a new temp job lasted exactly two and a half hours. After a supervisor showed him around, a trainer sent him to an early lunch, and then the temp agency called with the news: he was being let go over alleged hygiene issues. He says he had showered that morning, wore a brand-new polo shirt, and even asked two people whether they noticed any odor. Both said no. The company and the temp agency declined to give him any further explanation.

The timing made it sting even more. Havocko wrote that he had been unemployed for nearly ten months and had already exhausted his unemployment benefits, making this job his shot at getting back on his feet. When he pushed for details, the agency reportedly stopped responding altogether. His post on Reddit has since racked up more than 5,600 upvotes, with commenters speculating about everything from body spray to a company using“hygiene”as a catch-all excuse.

The story has tapped into a bigger frustration: vague feedback that leaves workers with no idea what went wrong and no real way to fix it. Temp work in particular offers thin protections, and when an agency sides with the employer, there’s often nowhere to appeal. So what do you think, if you were in his shoes, would you keep pushing for answers or just move on?
