Most people who win a million pounds would probably head straight to a financial advisor. Honorata Jamrozik did something different—she surprised her neighbors with five thousand pounds so they could finally take their first family vacation abroad.

The 48-year-old foster care mother from Dartford, Kent, scooped up the tax-free million-pound prize in the UK Omaze Monthly Millionaire Draw. But instead of keeping the windfall to herself, her first instinct was generosity. Her neighbors of 14 years, whom she describes as feeling like family, suddenly had the trip of their dreams within reach.“Good neighbors are one of life’s true blessings,”Jamrozik said.“Being able to give them money for a holiday so they can make some magical memories together makes me so happy.”

The timing of the win carried extra weight. Jamrozik had been grieving the loss of her father just two weeks before learning of her fortune—she discovered the prize after returning from his funeral in Poland. A spiritual woman, she’s convinced he had a hand in it:“He’ll always be the angel sitting on my shoulder, and I know it was him who sent this gift to me.”The Polish-born Jamrozik, who’s lived in the UK for 25 years, had been entering the monthly draw as part of her £15 subscription, keeping it secret from her husband, who’d always joked she had a better chance of being struck by lightning.

But the windfall means more than travel plans. Jamrozik had spent seven years doing foster care work she loved before stepping back to care for her elderly parents, which required frequent trips back to Poland. Now, finally, she can return to fostering—work that gave her purpose.“I just wanted to change the lives of kids who haven’t had an easy start in life,”she explained.“I absolutely love fostering—and this win means I can carry on doing what I love.”

The couple plans to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in October with their own once-in-a-lifetime trip, bringing Jamrozik’s mother along. For them, this isn’t about splurging alone. It’s about lifting the people they care about. That’s the real prize.
