Life Sentence Blues: Convicted Killer Complains Prison Is Too Boring

Mackenzie Shirilla is serving two consecutive life sentences, but apparently that’s not making the days go by any faster—or more bearable.

In a prison phone call obtained by TMZ, Shirilla griped to her mother, Natalie, about the soul-crushing monotony of lockup at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. The convicted killer’s main grievance? Time moves at a glacial pace when you’ve got limited access to commissary funds, a single book you’re tired of rereading, and absolutely nothing to do. She even groaned about what time of day it was, as if the clock itself were conspiring against her.

When her mom suggested she could find work mopping or sweeping to kill some hours, Shirilla explained that inmates with charges like hers don’t get assigned jobs—or at least that’s what she’s heard. She didn’t elaborate much beyond that, which is probably telling in itself.

Here’s where the irony gets thick: Shirilla is incarcerated for murdering Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. She’s not eligible for parole consideration in Ohio until 2037, meaning she’s got roughly a decade-plus of the same routine stretching ahead. She maintains her innocence and is fighting her conviction, but the legal system has other plans.

The real takeaway? Complaining about boredom in prison while serving time for two murders isn’t exactly the narrative move that generates sympathy. Shirilla might want to focus less on how slowly time passes and more on accepting that this is now her reality.
