Kyle Cooke just gave us the most honest explanation for why his best friend West Wilson had never set foot in his apartment—and it’s hilarious in the most relatable way possible.

The Summer House star, 43, recently clarified on Instagram Threads why Wilson didn’t visit the place he shared with estranged wife Amanda Batula until after the show’s season 10 reunion filmed. A fan had pointed out the apparent contradiction: if Kyle and West were truly close, shouldn’t West have been to their apartment by now? Shouldn’t their dog have known him? Kyle’s response?“I couldn’t invite ANY friends over for years due to the embarrassing state of our apartment.”

The backstory here is pretty telling. During season 10 of the Bravo show, Kyle opened up to West Wilson, 31, Jesse Solomon, and KJ Dillard about living conditions that had spiraled out of control.“She smokes weed every single night,”he said about Amanda, 34.“My apartment smells like a frat house and it looks like a frat house because she’s chaotically living.”The camera then cut to footage of the space itself—dirty ashtrays, piles of clothing, and more chaos.“I can’t even hire a cleaning company,”Kyle explained.“There’s too much s***. It’s like the series of the hoarders.”

That’s not hyperbole talking. It’s the kind of situation where you stop inviting people over because the embarrassment factor just isn’t worth it. And Kyle’s clearly lived through it. After Amanda Batula moved out in fall 2025 (which played out on Summer House’s spinoff In the City), things finally shifted. Kyle told People that getting her out of the apartment allowed him to“get a cleaner into the apartment, and get a new couch and turn things around.”Of her remaining belongings still scattered around? Kyle had some choice words:“Ironically, no. I’m trying to be as patient as can be but I think my patience has run out. I think she has a boyfriend who can come over and probably help pack up a car. I will not be there.”

The timing of West finally seeing the apartment during Summer House’s surprise The Aftermath episode feels almost poetic—it arrived only after things had improved and, well, after West had moved on to exploring a romance with Amanda himself (who is the ex of his close friend Ciara Miller). Sometimes you really do have to wait until the house is clean to let people in.
