John Mayer has a new record deal and a label of his own. The singer-songwriter signed with Mercury Records and launched Sob Rock Records in partnership with the label, announced Thursday. The move follows last week’s tease of new music and sets up his first solo release since 2021’sSob Rock: a new single called“Tom and Jerry,”out Friday, October 23.
The signing comes after Mayer parted with Columbia Records in 2022, declining to renew his deal. Mercury chairman and CEO Tyler Arnold signed him and called Mayer“one of the greatest artists of all time.”Mayer said working with Arnold and the Mercury team“has already proven to be a great partnership.”He joins a roster featuring Post Malone and Noah Kahan.
Mayer also has a 21-show solo residency at the Sphere lined up for April through June 2027. With 23 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and 15 entries on the Billboard 200, the new label boss has the catalog to back it all up. Which part of this new era are you most excited about: the single, the label, or the Vegas shows?
