Jimmy Stewart might be the most famous face in classic Hollywood, but a new film is turning the camera on a part of his life most fans never knew about.“Jimmy”focuses on Stewart’s World War II service as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps, when he left Hollywood at the height of his fame to serve. The film portrays the mental and emotional toll combat took on him, including his uncertainty about whether he could or even wanted to return to acting afterward.

KJ Apa leads the cast as Stewart, joined by Lara Kilmer, Jen Lilley, Jason Alexander, and Christopher McDonald, with Max Casella playing director Frank Capra. Aaron Burns directs the Papaian Studios film, which features a score by composer Grant Fonda and a theme song,“Home to Me,”performed by Christian artist Moriah. Rather than a cradle-to-grave biopic,“Jimmy”stays locked in on the war years and their aftermath. As one line from the film puts it,“Maybe a real hero is the last one to hear about it.”

“Jimmy”opens in theaters Friday, November 6, and it lands right as audiences have veteran stories and the cost of service on their minds. It’s also a fresh entry point for anyone who only knows Stewart from“It’s a Wonderful Life.”Will you be seeing it opening weekend? Tell us in the comments.
