Jacquees Fires Back at Lecrae: You Don't Tear Down Men You Don't Know

When a gospel artist weighs in on your relationship in a podcast, you know things have gotten personal—and R&B singer Jacquees isn’t letting it slide.

The drama ignited after Lecrae appeared alongside Deiondra Sanders, daughter of NFL legend Deion Sanders, and basically said she deserved better than her current partner. On the podcast, Lecrae told her,“From the outside looking in…I wanted more for you.”Sounds like the kind of comment that sticks with you—and it clearly did. When Jacquees caught wind of it during a recent interview while promoting his new single and upcoming album Mood 2, he wasted no time unloading.

His beef isn’t really about hurt feelings—it’s about what he sees as a fundamental lack of integrity. Jacquees argues it’s weak for one man to publicly criticize another man he doesn’t even know. More than that, he’s calling out the hypocrisy of a gospel artist taking that approach. In his view, if you’re preaching faith and positivity, that should extend to how you talk about people behind closed doors—or on a podcast with thousands of listeners. Guys shouldn’t have to tear down someone else to make a woman feel valued, he says. It’s a fair point: there’s a difference between having genuine concerns about someone’s choices and just signing off on public shade.

What makes this even more interesting is how Jacquees handled his own response. Despite making his position crystal clear, he closed out the interview wishing Lecrae well and saying“God bless him”—even while making it known he’d rather not hear his name dragged into conversations anymore. It’s a restrained kind of pushback, the sort that shows he’s not interested in escalating things but also isn’t going to pretend it didn’t happen.

The whole situation raises a bigger question about celebrity and boundaries. When you’re dating someone with a high-profile family, your relationship becomes fair game for commentary in a way that might feel invasive. Lecrae’s comments came from what might’ve been a place of genuine concern for Deiondra, but good intentions don’t always translate to good behavior. Jacquees’real message seems to be: stick to your lane, know what you don’t know, and leave the character assassinations at home.
