Influencer's Giant Family Bed Sparks Wildly Off-Base Diddy Comparisons

When your home design project goes viral, you’re bound to get some unexpected reactions. But DIY influencer Kate Albrecht probably didn’t anticipate that building a massive family bed would somehow land her in the same conversation as Sean“Diddy”Combs.

It all started innocuously enough. Albrecht and her husband, Joey Zehr (former drummer for The Click Five), decided to create an oversized sleeping space for their family of four—a practical solution for cosleeping with their 11-month-old daughter Mars and 6-year-old son Moon. They posted about the project on Instagram last month, and like so many things in the age of social media, it went viral. But the comments section quickly became a minefield of bizarre comparisons to the disgraced music mogul’s infamous 50-foot party bed.

On her Rug Cuddle podcast during the May 5 episode, the 42-year-old creator addressed the elephant in the room.“The one [comment] that kept coming in was like,‘P. Diddy, is that you?'”Albrecht explained, adding that she had no idea what the connection even was until she looked it up. Turns out, Diddy had featured an enormous bed during one of his lavish parties back in the day. The comparison is about as random as it gets, especially considering Diddy is currently serving a four-year prison sentence for transportation to engage in prostitution, following his 2025 conviction.

What makes this even more absurd is that Albrecht’s bed is rooted in practical, budget-conscious decision-making—the exact opposite of excess. She and Zehr built the entire frame themselves and sourced decorative headboard pieces from Etsy to avoid spending thousands on a custom bed frame. The oversized footprint actually maximized their bedroom space by keeping the floor clear near the closet, which was a genuine design consideration, not a flex.

“It’s huge and we love it’cause we can just spread out and, obviously, we sleep as a family,”Albrecht said during the podcast, emphasizing that their motivation had nothing to do with replicating anyone else’s lifestyle. The couple completed the project the week before welcoming Mars in May 2025, turning it into a bonding experience while also solving a real family need.

The whole saga is a perfect snapshot of how the internet operates: take one innocent thing, throw enough eyeballs at it, and suddenly someone will find the most tangential comparison imaginable and run with it. At least Albrecht can laugh about it now—and she’s got a genuinely clever home solution that actually works for her family.
