The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) arrives Nov. 13 via MCA with 29 tracks, and the lineup spans way more genres than anyone expected. Stevie Nicks, The Cure, The Smashing Pumpkins, Tyler Childers, Noah Kahan and Ella Langley all appear on the record, which was executive-produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb. Cobb called the process a fantasy league of dream artists, and said the album moves through triumph, sadness, loss and love.
The companion film opens Nov. 20 and follows 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy of District 12 during the 50th Hunger Games, set 24 years before the original trilogy. Cobb noted the album mirrors the film’s emotional range, which makes sense for a story about a teenager heading into the Games. One fun piece of trivia: Gigi Perez was the first artist to submit a song for the project, beating out some serious legends to the finish line.
With rock icons, country stars and pop favorites sharing one tracklist, this soundtrack gives radio plenty of cross-format moments heading into release week. The film and album arrive just a week apart, so expect both to dominate conversation all month.
