When you think of a water gun prank, images of summer fun and harmless splashing might come to mind. But what Christopher Cayce allegedly did in Houston crossed a line that landed him in serious legal trouble.

The 34-year-old was arrested after police say he used a high-powered, motorized water gun to target homeless and disabled people, then posted videos of the encounters on social media. According to Houston police, this wasn’t about innocent fun—investigators linked Cayce to multiple incidents where victims sustained actual bodily injuries from the force of the water gun. He allegedly taunted his victims during the attacks before uploading the clips online, seemingly treating real people’s distress as entertainment.

The troubling part isn’t just what he did, but the intent behind it. This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment mistake. Cayce filmed these encounters and intentionally shared them, which tells us he knew exactly what he was doing and wanted an audience for it. Vulnerability became content. People without homes or with disabilities—already marginalized communities—became targets for a prank designed to hurt and humiliate.

Cayce now faces two counts of assault causing bodily injury. His bond was set at $100 on each charge, which feels surprisingly low given the severity and pattern of the alleged behavior. The investigation is still ongoing, meaning he could face additional charges as police continue to piece together the full scope of his actions.

This case is a stark reminder that there’s a difference between pranks and harm. When you’re deliberately targeting vulnerable people and filming their pain for laughs and likes, you’ve crossed from humor into something darker. The question isn’t whether a water gun seems dangerous—it’s whether treating someone’s suffering as content should be acceptable in the age of social media. Houston’s police department clearly decided it shouldn’t be.
