Hailey Bieber is getting candid about a health struggle that rarely gets airtime. In a new interview with Women’s Wear Daily, the model and Rhode founder revealed she dealt with PMDD, or premenstrual dysphoric disorder, after welcoming son Jack Blues with Justin Bieber in August 2024. She said she was diagnosed about six months after giving birth, and that the condition is surrounded by silence and a serious lack of research.

For anyone unfamiliar, PMDD is a severe, hormonally driven mood disorder and a much more intense form of PMS. Symptoms like anxiety, mood swings, and hopelessness typically begin the week before menstruation. Bieber put the experience into words many people recognize:“You’re like,‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is gonna end?'”She first disclosed the diagnosis on the SHE MD podcast in March and has continued to speak publicly in hopes that others feel less alone.

The conversation comes with action behind it. Rhode announced a $5 million, three-year partnership with the Foundation for Women’s Health, a major commitment to research in a space that Bieber says gets too little attention. Whether you’re a parent, someone who deals with PMDD, or just a listener who’s never heard the term before, this one’s worth knowing about. Have you ever dealt with PMDD or known someone who has? We’d love to hear your story.
