When you’re running errands for your boss, the last thing you expect is to leave with puncture wounds and a legal case in hand. But that’s exactly what happened to Cole Gill, a former assistant to Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, when he stopped by their Carpinteria, California home on November 17, 2025.
Gill was there legitimately—invited to pick up a credit card and handle some tasks the couple had assigned him. What should’ve been a quick stop turned into a vicious encounter with the couple’s Dutch Shepherd, Ego, who allegedly sank its teeth into his right thigh. The bite left puncture wounds, permanent scarring, and enough emotional damage that Gill has since pursued scar-removal treatment and counseling.
Now Gill is taking legal action, suing Spencer and Heidi for damages covering lost wages, medical expenses, and other losses tied to the attack. California’s dog-bite laws are pretty clear-cut: owners are liable when their dog bites someone who’s lawfully on the property. Gill meets that definition—he was there at their request, not trespassing or provoking the animal. The couple has yet to respond to the allegations.
The timing is worth noting. This lawsuit lands roughly a month after Spencer’s bid to become Los Angeles mayor came to an end when he was eliminated from the race in June. Between political ambitions and now legal troubles, it’s been quite the stretch for the former Hills stars. We’ll see how they respond to the lawsuit, but for now, radio silence.
The question lingering here is a practical one: when you employ someone to handle personal tasks at your home, how responsible are you for what happens to them there? And in a case involving a guard dog, where’s the line between protection and liability?
