A fitness influencer who built his following by ripping off baggy shirts at shopping malls has died in Thailand at 32. Connor Murphy, who pivoted from prank videos to satirizing the looksmaxxing trend earlier this year, drowned in July 2026 after authorities in Samut Prakan province responded to reports of erratic behavior at a luxury rental property.

Murphy’s decade-long internet career was a study in reinvention. But as his audience grew, Murphy leaned into spectacle. His“Fake Shirt Trick”videos, where he’d wear oversized clothing before peeling it away to reveal his physique, went viral across social media. By early 2026, Murphy had shifted gears again. Riding the wave of looksmaxxing’s viral moment—a movement he captioned as“satire and social commentary intended to highlight and discourage harmful online looksmaxxing trends”—Murphy uploaded“A Day in the Looksmaxxing Life of Mandibleus Zygomidus”in February 2026. For a few months he continued the parody angle, poking fun at the obsessive body-optimization culture that had captured young men’s attention online. But in June, he hinted at a“new era,”posting gym footage that suggested another creative turn was coming.

He never got there. When police arrived at the rental property in Samut Prakan, Murphy reportedly jumped into a nearby lake and swam for several minutes before drowning. Rescue divers recovered his body. The circumstances remain under investigation, per the Bangkok Post.
