When a marriage falls apart in the public eye, the narrative gets messy fast. That’s exactly what’s happening with former NFL star Marcellus Wiley, who took to social media on Tuesday to respond to allegations made by his wife Annemarie in her recent divorce filing and temporary restraining order request.

The situation escalated quickly. A judge granted Annemarie’s request for a domestic violence temporary restraining order, which means Wiley is now prohibited from contacting her, staying away from her and their three children, and remaining out of the family’s Encino home. He also currently has no visitation rights while Annemarie maintains temporary sole custody. This came after Wiley was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence following an alleged incident at a Florida hotel over the weekend.

In his X statement, Wiley claims the allegations against him are completely false and insists he’s actually the one who’s been wronged. He says his highest priority has always been protecting his children and preserving their relationship with both parents. But he also made some striking claims of his own—alleging that Annemarie cursed his family with a“voodoo spell,”pointing to“serious and damaging parenting failures,”and suggesting that after she was kicked off“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,”she“lost her mind.”

Annemarie’s declaration paints a starkly different picture. According to the restraining order filing, she alleged a“continuing and escalating pattern of physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal and emotional abuse, financial control and intimidation.”She also made serious allegations including that Wiley raped her in 2012 and punched her in the face two years later, leaving her with a black eye.

Wiley’s response emphasizes that he never wanted his family’s struggles to become public, writing that he was“forced to respond with evidence rather than emotion.”Yet the moment such allegations enter the legal system—especially with a restraining order now in place—the private becomes very much public. The reality is that both sides are now making their cases not just to a judge, but to the court of public opinion as well. For their three children caught in the middle, this legal battle represents far more than a typical divorce dispute.

What happens next depends on how the case proceeds through the courts and whether the temporary restraining order becomes permanent. For now, Wiley is barred from his home and his children, and the allegations—serious on both sides—will likely continue to unfold in legal filings and through public statements.
