Fast-Track to Forever: Bringing Up Bates Star Warden Marries Kaybrie in Heartbreaking Race Against Time

Sometimes love moves at a pace nobody expects. Warden Bates, one of the 19 children of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates from Bringing Up Bates, and Kaybrie Patterson didn’t follow the traditional timeline when it came to their relationship. The couple made their romance public in March, got engaged on May 2, and walked down the aisle just three days later on May 5—all within two months of first appearing together on social media.

But there’s a reason behind the whirlwind speed that transcends typical relationship milestones. Patterson, 19, revealed in a joint Instagram post on Thursday, May 28, that the decision to accelerate their wedding from its originally scheduled September date was driven by an urgent, heartbreaking reality: her father’s battle with Stage IV colon cancer. After fighting the disease for three years, her dad’s health had deteriorated to the point where treatment was no longer viable, and hospice care became the next chapter. Patterson couldn’t imagine walking down the aisle without him there to witness the moment.

So the couple gathered their immediate families and created something small, intimate, and profoundly meaningful. On May 5th, Patterson’s father walked her down the aisle. It was simple, emotional, and—by her own words—beautiful in a way she’ll spend the rest of her life trying to find words for. The very next day, he became unresponsive. Three days after that, he passed away.

In her post, Patterson reflected on a truth that often gets lost in our pursuit of perfection: joy and sorrow can coexist.“I am learning that even in the midst of sorrow, there can be joy,”she wrote. Rather than delay and risk losing that precious moment, she and Warden seized it. Their decision wasn’t about rushing into marriage—it was about making sure the people who matter most could be part of it while they still could.

The newlyweds aren’t stopping there. Patterson and Warden plan to hold a larger wedding celebration in September, knowing that her father will be looking down on them from above. His absence will be felt, but his presence in that moment on May 5th will never be forgotten. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best decisions aren’t the ones we plan for months in advance. Sometimes they’re the ones we make when time becomes our most precious resource.
