Remember Erik von Detten? The Brink! and The Princess Diaries star spent years working in precious metals at Rosland Capital, and that company just filed for bankruptcy, claiming more than $60 million in debt. The filing puts fresh spotlight on a lawsuit already hanging over the former child star.
According to Page Six, Norman Greenberg, 97, and Sheila Greenberg, 85, are suing von Detten and Rosland Capital for elder abuse and fraud. They allege von Detten told them by phone he had special knowledge of gold and could help manage their $2 million retirement savings. The couple says they spent about $2.1 million on gold coins worth roughly $1.3 million, leaving them with around $900,000 in losses. They’re seeking that money back plus punitive damages.
Von Detten started at Rosland Capital in 2018, and his rep did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment. If there’s a takeaway here, it’s about the conversations we should be having with our parents and grandparents about financial pitches, especially ones that name-drop a celebrity or promise insider knowledge. Have you ever had that talk with someone in your family? Let us know in the comments.
