Chihuahua's Persistent Pawing Led Owner to a Life-Saving Breast Cancer Diagnosis

A chihuahua from England is being hailed as a hero after his persistent behavior led his owner to discover she had breast cancer. Kristine Richards, 61, says her dog Flag would not stop pawing at her armpit, and she initially found it incredibly annoying. But when she finally decided to investigate, she found a lump that turned out to be an aggressive, hormone-sensitive lobular breast cancer.

The cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes, and she had no other symptoms, making Flag’s detection all the more crucial. After a year of intensive treatment, Richards is now in remission and completely cancer-free. Amazingly, Flag stopped pawing at her arm after her very first chemotherapy round, as if he knew his work was done. Flag is now a trained assistance dog and was once the honorary mayor of his town, making him a true local celebrity.
