Cameron University's Go For Gold 2030 Plan Approved: What It Means for Lawton

Cameron University is officially moving forward with“Go For Gold 2030,”a five-year strategic plan approved by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents. The plan rests on six pillars, including enrollment growth, community partnerships, academic distinction, employee support, athletic visibility, and amplifying the Cameron experience. It was built by a 15-member steering committee that held eight listening sessions over the past year, so it reflects input from across campus and the community.

The timing matters. Universities nationwide are preparing for the“demographic cliff,”a projected drop in traditional college-age students. Cameron is countering that trend with momentum: enrollment is up for the 2026-27 academic year, and the university recently landed a $500,000 research subcontract from Picogrid, the largest in its history. New academic offerings include a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and associate degrees in occupational and physical therapy assistance, programs chosen to match regional workforce needs around Lawton and Fort Sill.

President Shane Hunt says the plan ultimately comes down to giving students the best possible experience while positioning Cameron as a driver of the Southwest Oklahoma economy.
