After a Decade Together, Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid Call It Quits

A decade-long relationship that survived breakups, therapy sessions, and a near-marriage has come to an end. Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid have reportedly split, according to multiple outlets including People and The Daily Mail on Saturday, June 27. The pair, who found each other through mutual friend Ed Sheeran back in 2013, had become one of Hollywood’s more understated couples—the kind who showed up to major events together but rarely dominated tabloid headlines.

What makes this split interesting isn’t just the timeline, but the journey that got them here. Cox, 62, and McDaid, 49, were engaged in 2014 but broke up before reconciling years later. In a 2019 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Cox opened up about the split with refreshing honesty:“He’s not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we’re just together.”That breakup, she revealed later, became a turning point—one that led her into therapy and deeper self-reflection about what she needed in a relationship and what patterns she’d carried from childhood.

By 2024, Cox seemed settled in the rekindled relationship. On Minnie Driver’s“Minnie Questions”podcast, she spoke candidly about how the initial separation, while“really intense,”ultimately strengthened their bond.“I’m so thankful for that breakup because when we got back together it was a different relationship,”she said. She credited therapy and setting boundaries for helping her understand herself better—not just as a partner, but as a person.

Last they were publicly spotted together was at the US Open in September 2025, both dressed in black while watching Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s men’s singles final match. Just months before, she’d posted a now-deleted birthday tribute to McDaid on Instagram in July 2025:“Happy birthday to the man who can do most anything. I love you always J ❤️❤️❤️.”That post has since vanished, much like the relationship it celebrated.

Neither Cox nor McDaid have commented on the breakup. What remains is a relationship that by all public measures seemed to have weathered its storms—until apparently, it didn’t. Sometimes even therapy and second chances aren’t enough.
