Aerosmith played their first live shows in three years at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29 and November 1, and the“California, Dream On: Aerosmith&Friends”nights delivered more star power than a season of award shows. Dave Grohl played drums for most of the six-song set on night one, Johnny Depp joined on guitar for“The Train Kept A-Rollin’,”and original drummer Joey Kramer returned for the closer,“Walk This Way.”Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone introduced the band, with Guns N’Roses, The Black Crowes, Heart, and Billy Idol also on the bill.

Night two kept the surprises rolling: Tom Morello, Lzzy Hale, Jerry Cantrell, and Mike Inez hit the stage, John Douglas held down the drums, and the band covered The Beatles’“Come Together.”The shows marked Aerosmith’s return to the stage after Steven Tyler’s larynx injury forced the touring hiatus.

The wildest moment came when comedian and MC Bill Burr called the first night the band’s final shows, and Tyler pushed back the very next night, saying“you can’t get rid of Aerosmith”and joking that at the end of the world only cockroaches, Aerosmith, and Bill Burr will remain. So was this goodbye or round one? Think this was really the end, or does the band have another tour in them?
